What is a time delayed autoresponder?

A time delayed autoresponder looks like a regular opt-in to a visitor, but it has an automated back end for the site owner. When a visitor opt's in to your mailing list, they receive a series of messages that you have PRE created in the autoresponder system. These messages contain programming to personalize and customize the messages (with the opt-in's name and current date) to appear as if they were created by hand.

The messages are sent on a time delayed calendar. Each message is typically set to go out 3 - 7 days after the previous message. This creates a constant stream of contact between you and your visitor, which builds up their trust and comfort with your site, without annoying them. Each message is sent in sequence and engineered to create a sale.

Here is a an example:

1. Install an autoresponder system.

2. Create a series of 5 email messages in the autoresponder system.
    - #1 - Thank them for opting in, give them a free gift and order link - Day 1
    - #2 - Ask them how they liked the free gift and order link - Day 3
    - #3 - Offer them a 10% discount and order link - Day 6
    - #4 - Offer them a special discount only valid till midnight - Day 10
    - #5 - Ask them why they did not buy? - Day 13

3. Create an opt-in form (popup, pop under, hover ad, etc.) to collect visitor's name/email.

4. A visitor enters their name and email address into the opt-in

5. Message #1 is emailed to the visitor immediately.

6. Messages 2 - 5 are emailed out on the time delays set (day 3,6,10,13).

Which system do we recommend?

Hosted autoresponders used to be the best way to go, they were fast, and easy to get going with loads of features. However, recently the war on SPAM has started to cripple hosted autoresponders. Big providers such as AOL blacklist hosted autoresponder systems if too many AOL users report messages as spam. This means that your messages may be blocked by AOL just for being on that hosted system. Due to this trend we have switched to Script and PC Autoresponders.
