Below is a list of some of the major Directory and Crawler based search engines you can submit to, with some examples and notes. Every webmaster should consider submitting to some or all of these Engines.

The DMOZ - http://www.dmoz.org

The Open Directory is a volunteer-built guide to the web. It is provided as an option at many major search engines, including Google. Given this, being listed with the Open Directory is essential to any site owner. It's highly recommended that you take the time to learn more about the Open Directory before submitting, in order to maximize the amount of traffic you may receive.

If your site is accepted into the Open Directory, it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to several months for your site to be listed on partner sites which use the Open Directory data, such as AOL Search, AltaVista, HotBot, Google, Lycos, Netscape Search, etc.

Google

We do not recommend you submit to Google, it is best to let Google find YOU. This can be done with any link from a Google indexed page.
