Improve your site ranking in the search engines

Recent studies reveal that 85% of Internet users find websites through search engines. Out of those users, 90% do not go past the first 30 results displayed.

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) makes your web pages and their content more accesible to those who need it.

The average web user simply opens up a web browser, types in a short phrase of "keywords" into the search box, and clicks "Search". The Search Engine Results Pages (SERP's) are displayed, and the user begins their quest for what they are looking for.

Optimization – There are numerous tasks you can perform on a site, to each page, even to the code, that will improve the sites appearance in the SERP's.

In order to optimize effectively a keyword analysis needs to be done. Once the keyword analysis has been completed we can optimize the site.

Page Optimization includes:

Page Titles

Your page titles are without a doubt one of the most important optimization areas on your site. They are important because:

  • They are generaly heavily weighted by the search engine ranking algorithms.
  • They are almost always used as the heading for your site on the search results pages.
  • They are possibly the most important information your potential customers will use to decide if they want to visit your site after finding you in the search results.

Since you not only have to impress the search engines but your potential customers with your page title, and have to do it in 60 characters or less, you need to give careful attention to the formulation of your page titles.

Meta Tags

Meta Tags are invisible to normal viewers and are used to give the Search engines additional information. While the most important of these tags were traditionally considered to be the "Description" Tag and the "Keywords" Tag, the keywords tag is hardly used by search engines  now as the spiders have responded to spammers misuse of these tags. The description tag is still important  to most search engines (Google excepted), but  page content is now considered much more important in the overall picture.

Alt Tags

<ALT> tags are intended to give a description of a photo in cases where the web browser either cannot display photos or the photo display option has been turned off. If you use these tags properly, your site's visitors will be able to see the description of an un-displayed photo (a good thing). But even more importantly your <ALT> tags will help your search engine ranking.

Anchor Text

Link text continues to be one of the most important considerations in building authority. We suggest rotating from 3 different variations of what keywords you use in your anchor text to address a page. If you do nothing else, plan for how you are going to use the anchor text throughout the site. This includes anchor text in navigation as well as the additional links you add on a per page basis as additional navigation or the boost the anchor themes for the site.

When thinking about the anchor text, consider both the internal links, taking you from page to page, as well as external links coming in from other sites. Take time to develop a unique strategy.

Other optimization services available:

Site Map – Search engines spider/bots love the site map for the linking information and visitors like them for bookmarking. In optimization there are different ways to structure the site map, depending on how hard you have to push to capture the position you need within the search industry.

At least list all the important pages of the site. Depending on how large the site is will determine how much detail you’ll go into on the site map. The site map helps cut down on repetitive navigational linking, limiting the repetitive linking to what is crucial [homepage, site map, contact and whatever the strategy determined to be important].
